A New Year, A New Site - CommunityWalk is out of beta!
It's been a long time coming.
Finally, with much thanks to Emily and Max at Ideacodes and the great team I've been working with, I can pull off the curtains and reveal the new CommunityWalk, beta free.
There are some big changes in this release. The most obvious being a newly redesigned frontpage. It's got some ajaxy fanciness under the hood and allows you to explore all of the public communities out there a bit. This is just the beginning of the exploration functionality, though. There is much more to come under the hood of the "Explore" button that currently reads "Coming Soon".
The other big change is with the photos on the site. We are now capturing much larger photos when uploaded, and when linked to from a site like Flickr, we'll be displaying the largest one for your viewing pleasure. Just click "Enlarge" when looking at photos to see the larger versions.
This is also the beginning of the CommunityWalk business plan. We will be building up an infrastructure to support hosting maps for communities, businesses, individuals, etc. There will be a few options, ranging from simply removing the ads on the map, to fully customizing the map to be included in your own site. There has already been quite a bit of interest in this, so hopefuly we'll be able to ramp up quickly to meet any demand. In the meantime email me at communitywalk@gmail.com if you are interested in such a service!
As with any release this big there are likely still some bugs out there so please report any that you find. Already I am aware of some Safari issues that we were unable to fix in time for this release. Also I'd love to hear any feedback on the new redesign!
This is just the beginning. We're going to continue to redesign the site, integrating the great design from the frontpage throughout the application, adding in lots of new functionality (don't worry, we'll keep it all very simple), and making everything very very fast!
So keep an eye on this blog because CommunityWalk's gonnna have a big year!

Anonymous,
Very true. The entire "About" section of CommunityWalk is long overdue for a complete overhaul. I'll be sure to give IdeaCodes their proper credit as soon as we get around to working on the "About" section.
