Trial Account And So Much More!

I just added a trial account to CommunityWalk so that people can try it out before signing up. I'm hoping that this, along with the Random Sample Community and Random Public Commmunity links and the tutorials will give people ample opportunity to see what CommunityWalk is all about before signing up. Once they've seen what it can do, of course, they will decide to sign up :)

I also put the a byline below the CommunityWalk header on the home page reading, "The fastest and easiest way to create your own Google Map with photos, directions, commenting, and so much more!". Hopefully this will also encourage people to give it a try. I am usually against such blatant statements, but I truly believe that CommunityWalk makes the process of creating your own GoogleMap with photos, comments, directions, etc. very quick and easy and I want people to give it a try so that they can see how easy it is. I personally actually find it quite fun and even addicting...

Safari Infobox Issues

On Safari there seems to be an issue with the pop-up infoboxes that show the main description, directions, photos, etc. Safari does not seem to recognize all the html that is passed into the box and is cutting alot of it off. This will be remedied soon hopefully.

Stylistic Issues - Especially on Safari

So there are definitely still a number of stylistic issues on certain browsers (eg. Safari) or with certain settings. This is largely my fault due to the slightly spaghetti-like css code I have written for the site. It is a high priority to fix this so that all users see the same thing when they visit the site.

Introducing Permalinks and Special Functions

I added a new feature last night that allows people to get permalinks to the map and add special functions to the various descriptions in their community. These special functions provide the ability to bold and italicize text, add links to external web pages or to internal locations. If this sounds confusing you can see an example of the internal links at one of my sample maps, showing all the places I have lived: http://www.communitywalk.com/map/1.

One note: the permalinks currently do not capture any coordinates for the map center, so, for them to be useful you need to have a location open. In the future I will add in this functionality if it seems like people really need it.

The First Public Notice

I just posted the first mention of the live beta site at my personal blog, The Entrprexplorer's Journal . I'm hoping that there are enough people who read that already that a few people will try the site out and let me know what they think without the traffic getting too crazy just yet.

So now that it is public I will be posting any and all changes that I make to the site here. There will be some coming as soon as tonight...

And so it begins...
